This is a mirror that Deana fell in love with after seeing it. How could I say no after that?
Lucky for me, Mayumi-san came with supplies to teach Deana how to make Sushi rolls (or California rolls). This is not legit sushi, BUT, it is pretty darn close. It tastes GREAT, so I am not going to complain. Here are some photos of my chef in action.
And of course, the end product:
It tasted GREAT!! Oshikatta desu yo!!
But, that is not the whole purpose of my post. My primary reason was to share with you Avery's ability to make her own bed. We have started a "chores"list for Avery...
Click here for the Youtube Link Cute huh?
We also got to experience the first snow of 2009 for the Yokohama area
Tomorrow (Sunday), we are going to Shin-Yokohama for a monthly Flea Market. We are hoping that it will be a good one, but we'll see. If we come across any fantastic finds, we'll keep you posted.
Have a great week!

It looks like you guys love the flea markets. It is really neat to think that you will have multiple pieces to remind you of your time there in Japan when the day comes for you to move back to the states.
And bring on the California Rolls Deana! I hope you are getting all the supplies you need to come back to the states and make those delicious bites. I wouldn't mind tasting those when we come back for furlough! :)
If Ed reads this, the first thing he will make Deana do when you guys come back is teach me how to make sushi! That would be okay, though, since it's pretty good for you but not always cheap here!
You guys picked up some neat things. And unlike normal vacation, you don't have to worry about how to get it all home, since Nissan will do it for you! How wonderful!
We miss you guys!
Wow, this is way cool....we are expecting our first snow in MS today also. They are saying 1-3 inches late this evening. I love the flea market finds, both are very pretty. No on the plant stand Deana, it's too pretty for that. The sushi bites are real appealing in appearance but...I'll pass, thank you. Now I must say that I am sooo impressed with Avery's skills at bed making. She does a much better job than I could ever do if I were standing in the middle of my bed trying to make it. Too cute! I think the chore list is a great idea. Only a couple weeks til the family arrives, save some time to post while they are there. Hugs to all!!
How about that smart Granddaughter of mine? Avery, you did a great job of making your bed. Maybe you can help me when I come visit you in 2-1/2 weeks. WOW -won't be long now! There is snow predicted for tonight for us - has been raining for almost 3 days now - wet and yucky and muddy. Been overcast all afternoon and dreary looking. Good day to curl up on the couch with a blanket and a book. Love you all - we'll be there soon! I am excited that Deana can make shushi. Love you!
Nana & Papa
CUTE! Loved the video of Avery making her bed, I like how she "falls" onto the bed to make it and covering up her animals with the blanket, so cute. I really like the mirror by the way and the chair. I miss you guys!
We've actually been going to Flea Markets for the past few weeks trying to find something for the house and get some true Japanese goods without paying true Japanese prices. 90% of the stuff we have bought is dishes, tea sets, saucers, etc. The buys aren't great and the flea markets here are NOTHING like the ones at home (the vast majority of these are people selling their clothes); but, it has been a decent way to spend the weekend when there is nothing else going on.
The furniture was not a flea market find - it was a going out of business (I think) sale...
I loved the video of Avery making her bed....how cute. She can make mine while I am there! Only two weeks and two days. And I expect some homemade sushi. Hey, if we find any real good deals like you did on that furniture, can we leave it with you and have Nissan ship it back when they do yours??
