Todays Adventures

Well, we got out and adventured a little. We started out our day with a good American breakfast from Denny's that is about 4 blocks from our house. They have the best french toast and scrambled eggs I have had. Curtis had a breakfast plate that had scrambled eggs, bacon, a hot dog, and salad on it...yes you read that right. He said it was really good!

Curtis showed me how to navigate the train station...needless to say...I need more practice. We went into Yokohama City and toured around a little. We road a HUGE farris wheel that was part of a permanant carnival park outside the Land Mark Tower. I've included pics of the tower from the ground and from the farris wheel (also included in the pics). There is a ship in the canal there that they do a show on. We caught the middle of it. The Japanese crew climb up the lines to pull up the sails...it was neat.

We then went to Motomachi there is good shopping. All the shops were having a huge sale so the streets and stores were more crowded than normal (see pic).

We then went to meet up with our contacts and friends in Japan, The Clark family. We had an American meal consisting on chicken, green beans, mac n' cheese, and mashed potatoes prepared by Michelle. I tried to help and burned my hand VERY badly. So I had to stand aside. I had to use my Japanese "point" book in the Pharmacy to get some burn medicine. My point book is a book that you can use to point at things you need that has the Japanese writting on it. Worked like a charm! I wished it had of worked for me at the McDonald's I stopped at to get some ice for my hand on the way home. I had a bag of ice from the Clark's house that I was using but it melted before I got home and the pain was so bad that I had to get more. Cutis told me to just go in and ask for a cup of ice (in McDonald's)....uhhh.... anyone know how to say that??? We didn't either. I stood at the counter in pain and tears trying to get this kid to understand that all I wanted was some ice. Finally, he got the manager and he finally figured out what I needed. Then I got my burn med. Just another day in Japan (hahaha).

Miss you all!

We Made It!

We finally made it! Avery did so well on the flights! We couldn't have asked for her to be any better. We arrived in Tokyo about 4:15 (Japan time), got through immigration, got our luggage, went through customs, and finally arrived at our house at 6:30pm (Japan time). We went to the local super market (The OK Super) to get toilet paper and juice. Avery was so excited to see WHOLE fish for sale in the store. She wanted to buy some and take them home. We had to explain that they were dead and for people to eat. She said "we eat fish don't we" and I told her yes, but I didn't have the heart to tell her that our fish usually doesn't look back at us.

Currently it is 4:47am here and we are all WIDE awake....welcome jet lag! We are going out today to get some essentials. Our realtor is taking us to a store to get some inexpensive home items to get us through until our sea shippment arrives this November. More to come soon....by the way...our house is beautiful inside. I can't wait for everyone to see it.

Lots of love!

Less Than 24 Hours to Go!

Well...we have less than 24 hours before we leave. The goodbyes have been difficult but the hardest ones are still left to come....saying goodbye to the parents. We are really excited about going to Japan, but we are still very sad about leaving everyone we love.

Once we get to Japan, it will take about 1 week to get our Internet hooked up so it may take a little time before we can post again. Please keep visiting us through the www and keep in touch.

We will miss you all!

It's Really Happening

Well, the packers are here working as I "speak". They are doing a great job! I was panicing at first this morning but they have really made things better. They are taking our sea shippment today, coming back tomorrow for the air shippment and then storage Friday. I have attached some picks, but nothing spectacular.

The Chaos Has Begun!

We leave in just over a week and we feel the time crunch! It is very difficult not to get in there and start packing. We aren't supposed to pack anything because the relocation company has to inventory everything and pack it themselves since they are responsible. We are in the process of splitting the house up into "ship" and "store" categories. Then we have to go a step further and say "sea shipment" and "air shipment". The relocation company is coming in on Wednesday to start and I have not a clue of what to do.

We haven't heard about our house in Japan yet. We are hoping to hear something before the end of the week. The relocation company has to have an address in order to ship our things and we don't have that yet. At this point...we are "homeless". We told the couple that is already over there, the Clarks, that we were just going to come live with them.

Our flight leaves out of Nashville at 10:20am on Sept 25th. We fly into Detroit and then leave Detroit at around 2:00 to head to Tokyo. Anyone is welcome to come see us off, however, we ask that all heavy tears be held until we have passed through the gates. Not for Curtis and my sakes, but for Avery's. We just don't think she will understand all the tears and it may make her afraid. We would rather people see us arrive back home when our trip is done.

We welcome anyone to come visit, but know that plane tickets are very expensive. So don't get sticker shock!

We will keep you posted!
